Colorado City Timeline
When we purchased our 40 acres on the Hatchet Ranch in 1998, our plan was to retire in 2008 (on my 60th birthday), sell our home in Boulder and build a home on our acreage. Well as 2008 developed into the worst economy for many decades, we reconsidered our options. I still retired in 2008, and Susan stopped working at the end of 2008. We put our Boulder home on the market in January 2009, anticipating a minimum of a 3-4 month wait. You can imagine our surprise when we had a contract for sale in 2 days !!
The Hatchet Ranch is located aproximately 16 miles south of Pueblo, Colorado and 4 miles north of Colorado City , Colorado. At the "Abbey Road/Hatchet Ranch Road" exit (Exit 77) it is approximately 6 miles east to our property.
After our house in Boulder sold so fast, we surveyed the housing market in Colorado City and came to the conclusion that there were some great values in existing homes and coupled with the volatile housing construction market and other factors, we decided to purchase an existing home. After a day or two with a realtor and 7-8 showings, we opted to put an offer on an existing house in Colorado City, which was accepted. We closed on both homes on February 27th.
